DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Temporary Employment Services (TES) is seeking a Complaint Resolution Officer (CRO) for a long-term temporary opportunity. The CRO reports to the Title IX Officer/Director of OPHD and is responsible for responding to complaints of harassment and discrimination. Working under general direction, the CRO:

* Exercises independent judgment in intake, informal resolution, and formal investigation of complaints,

* Develops strategies for resolution of identified concerns, and

* Ensures processes are fair, impartial, and consistent with University policy and applicable law.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct impartial intake, consultation, conflict resolution, and investigation of harassment and discrimination complaints.

* Provide problem-solving and guidance in response to inquiries from students, staff, faculty, affiliates, and healthcare employees.

* Make recommendations to the Director or appropriate administrators regarding outcomes or policy improvements.

* Train managers and supervisors on UC nondiscrimination policies and related obligations.

* Develop, implement, and evaluate education and training programs on harassment and discrimination prevention, including state-mandated sexual harassment prevention training for supervisors.

Anticipated Duration: 12 months

Compensation: Pay: $50 - $55 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.

Location: this position will have a hybrid remote work arrangement, with 1 day per week on-site required. (on-site office is at main La Jolla campus.)

Work schedule: Mon - Fri; 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM; some evenings and weekends may be required.

About OPHD

The Office for the Prevention of Harassment & Discrimination (OPHD) is responsible for ensuring that UC San Diego provides an environment free from harassment and discrimination on the basis of protected categories. OPHD's mission is to:

* Educate the UC San Diego community about these issues,

* Assist with prevention efforts, and

* Ensure prompt and effective resolution of complaints.

OPHD also provides guidance to ensure compliance with federal and state law, as well as University of California nondiscrimination policies, and advises senior leadership across all Vice Chancellor areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

* Juris Doctor or advanced degree in related area preferred.

* Demonstrated experience conducting investigations, including interviewing, gathering and analyzing evidence, and writing investigation reports. Preferred experience working in a compliance function within an academic setting.

* Experience investigating a high caseload of sexual harassment or other equivalently sensitive allegations in an empathetic and confidential manner.

* Strong skills and experience in conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques, screening, interviewing, advising and investigation. Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations.

* Ability to present information clearly and concisely, both in writing and verbally. Ability to suggest practical and effective recommendations; strong analytical and research skills to identify internal and external resources.

* Ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with campus administrators, staff, faculty and students. Ability to assist or consult with administrators, staff and faculty in assessing procedural, policy or ethical concerns in complex matters.

* Skill and sensitivity to interact with diverse constituencies of various ethnic, social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds in order to identify, investigate and facilitate problem resolution and to educate members of the University community effectively.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $88,000 - $161,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $42.15 - $77.39

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
