Job Description

We are currently looking for a Senior Manager, Indirect Taxto join our Finance team.As SeniorManager, Indirect Tax,you will report directly to the Director, Tax. You will drive the Company's indirect tax planning process and compliance cycle for all state and local jurisdictions including sales & use tax, property tax and relevant transaction taxes supported by third-party outsource firms. You will ensure the accurate and timely filing of all US transaction tax returns. You will provide strategic leadership with respect to sales & use, and property tax audits, assessing the taxability or available exemptions to complex customer and supplier matters, and advising the business on indirect tax matters to enable effective decision making relating to new product offerings and system requirements.

As Senior Manager, Indirect Tax, your duties will include:

  • Key indirect tax point of contact for the Brightspeed companies
  • Drive the Company's indirect tax planning process and compliance cycle for all state and local jurisdictions including communications taxes/fees/surcharges (e.g., telecom taxes, FUSF, etc.), sales & use tax, property tax, business license and other relevant transaction taxes with the support of third-party outsource firms as needed
  • Ensure the accurate and timely filing of all US transaction tax returns
  • Lead the telecommunication transaction tax exemption process
  • Work with AR, AP, and IT to resolve any billing discrepancies
  • Work with Product Development and Sales Org/Distribution Channel teams to review new products or product changes in order to assign the proper service/material coding for purposes of mapping to the tax engine
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliation for sales tax payable account, responsible for reconciliation of sales & use tax accrual accounts to tax returns and payments to support the accruals for each state
  • Prepare account reconciliations for property tax payable account
  • Monitor business and legislative changes in applicable areas to determine the impact to Brightspeed
  • Review processes, building out a controls framework and risk policies suitable forBrightspeed with a continuous improvement mindset seeking out innovative solutions
  • Document and monitor indirect tax risk/management policies and procedures
  • Manage all US indirect tax audits, including negotiation and strategy
  • Work cross functionally with finance and other departments to support the accounting close process, advising on tax accounting and indirect tax matters as new developments arise
  • Assist with special projects, as directed
Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Taxation or related field is preferred. CPA is preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience with US indirect taxes, including experience with technology, e-commerce and telecommunications transaction taxes including Federal & State Universal Service Fund (FUSF), Emergency 911 (E911), Public Utility Commission Fees/Gross Receipts Tax (PUC), Federal Excise Tax (FET) and similar fees
  • Prior Big 4 public accounting experience as well as industry experience strongly preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of sales & use tax laws, regulations, state controversy work and best practices relating to invoice requirements
  • Proficient using Vertex
  • Experience using data analytics software and running SQL queries in SAP is a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to interface across all levels of Brightspeed including executive leadership, managers and individual contributors
  • Strong attention to detail and outstanding organization skills
  • A proven ability to independently manage multiple priorities and meet tight filing deadlines
  • Strong Excel skills and MS Office proficiency
