The Registered Nurse (RN) supervisor role is designated as a "working supervisor." This individual will serve as the direct supervisor for the RNs (6-7 staff members) employed across all four clinical sites. During scheduled staffing, the supervisor will primarily be stationed at the Scarborough and Portland clinics, with occasional (approximately once per month) RN coverage at the Bath clinic. One day per week will be allocated for dedicated administrative responsibilities related to leadership functions, most likely performed at the Scarborough facility. Additionally, at certain times throughout the year, the supervisor will schedule supplemental administrative time beyond the usual weekly commitment to accommodate protected time for key strategic initiatives.

This is a full-time, salaried position operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The organization observes major holidays and remains closed on weekends. The position reports directly to the undersigned. Currently, there are no plans for remote work hours. A typical day involves supporting RN tasks, patient education, rooming consults and follow-up appointments, responding to incoming patient calls with clinical inquiries, among other duties. Administrative and supervisory responsibilities include making payroll adjustments and approving timecards, coaching staff, conducting annual evaluations for direct reports, identifying opportunities for process improvements within nursing workflows, and collaborating with radiation therapy and department leadership to develop and implement strategic initiatives.

Summary:
Assures that the nursing needs of Radiation Oncology patients are met by the continuous assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating the effects of comprehensive care designed to meet the changing needs of the patient and family; contributes to the professional growth of other departmental personnel and participates in achievement of other department goals and objectives. Work may be performed at any of the Radiation Centers operated by Maine Medical Center.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Master's preferred. Requires interpersonal and management skills and knowledge of employee relation laws as normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in nursing in order to deal with complex management problems and communicate with unit personnel, physicians, administrative personnel and a variety of other hospital personnel and community persons.
  2. License/Certifications: Requires current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine. Oncology Nursing certification preferred.
  3. Experience: Requires clinical expertise in direct patient care as normally acquired through approximately seven years' experience as a staff nurse and/or supervisor.
  4. Requires a high level of analytical skills to make management decisions at unit level and make recommendations for consideration of departmental issues.
  5. Demonstrated ability to train/teach preferred.
