Responsibilities

This position is the first level of authority in the workplace by providing leadership, coaching, and clear direction to ensure that the hourly workforce is working safely, meeting customer demands, solving problems, eliminating waste, and meeting goals. Direct reports include the incumbent's respective area's and shift's hourly reports. The incumbent communicates continually with the Die Engineering, Die Design, Planning, and Quality Departments, as well as with Production Supervisors. Externally, they communicate with vendors and other tool and die shops.




  • Authorizes and subsequently reviews all repairs to tooling. Organizes and assigns departmental workload so as to maximize efficiency and timeliness.
  • Maintain Die Repair Orders (DROs) in Oracle to track tooling repairs and enter MSO for tooling routed to outside repair shops
  • Instructs, guides, supervises, motivates and evaluates die shop staff regarding the daily performance of their assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable Company policies and procedures.
  • Reviews work orders and time spent on jobs on a daily and weekly basis to ensure accuracy, quality and efficiency of shop performance.
  • Coordinate with outside shops working on Howmet tooling, assign and track due dates, communicate scope of work and provide purchase orders to cover work costs.
  • Oversees purchasing of routine and special-order die shop supplies, mechanical parts, cutting tools to ensure appropriate and timely availability of components for maintenance as needed. Monitors expenditures to ensure cost-effectiveness of purchases.
  • Coordinates the daily and long-term scheduled and unscheduled maintenance of Company equipment to ensure the safest and most cost-effective operations.
  • Maintains and monitors IAM Die Sinker Apprentice program. Monitors Apprentice progression and balances work to expose Apprentices to all required
  • Resolves problems that arise within the shop in an impartial and effective manner guided by Company policies and practices, as well as any applicable local, state, or federal statutes or regulations.
  • Establishes and maintains productive working relationship with other Howmet Inc. departments and employees.
  • Ensures that all activity in area of responsibility is conducted in accordance with the Company's safety program and all related procedures and practices. Ensures that all subordinates are trained in appropriate safety procedures and Toolbox Talks
  • Performs other related duties as required by business necessity or assigned by management.

Qualifications

For this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:



  • A High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience with Die Engineering or similar machining trades or a Journeyman's Card.
  • Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience in a heavy manufacturing environment.


This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Business from an accredited institution.
  • The ability to effectively communicate (verbally and written) and delegate while maintaining forward motion on key deliverables.
  • Experience with CNC Programming.
  • A high degree of interpersonal skills to motivate and influence others, including those not under their direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability of problem solving, systems thinking, project management, and team building.
  • Knowledge and experience in applying lean manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment.
