The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a full-time Research Coordinator for the Reproductive Equity Action Lab (REAL), led by Dr. Tiffany Green. REAL conducts rigorous and cutting-edge research that identifies key structural inequities that stand in the way of reproductive autonomy. The Research Coordinator will work alongside a team of multi-disciplinary faculty, staff, and trainees. Learn more about REAL's mission and values here: real.smph.wisc.edu.

The Research Coordinator's primary responsibility will be managing a newly funded three-year project examining disparities in postpartum pain treatment among Black birthing people in Madison, Wisconsin. This role requires an on-site presence for meetings, engagement activities, and data collection, which will include one-on-one interviews and electronic surveys with clinicians (e.g., physicians, nurse midwives, registered nurses, physician assistants) and Black birthing people. The Research Coordinator will work closely with multiple stakeholders on and off campus, including research compliance and finance colleagues, patients, clinicians, and community partners. As such, their role will be integral to REAL's community accountability.

In addition, the Research Coordinator will contribute to REAL's broader portfolio of mixed-methods research, which examines both reproductive health (perinatal health, abortion, contraception) and policies that impede reproductive autonomy and equity (e.g., abortion restrictions, Birth Cost Recovery).

Under the oversight and mentorship of the Associate Director (Klaira Lerma) and Senior Research Scientist (Laura Swan), the Research Coordinator will support project management and lead implementation tasks (e.g., IRB submissions, recruitment, engagement) as well as data collection (e.g., surveys, interviews). As appropriate, they may also contribute to data cleaning, coding, analysis, and dissemination.

This position offers variety-balancing administrative responsibilities (e.g., regulatory paperwork, survey programming, documentation) with interpersonal work (e.g., interviews, community engagement, team collaboration). It is well suited for someone early to mid-career with 2-5 years of relevant experience.

REAL uses a team science approach that values professional growth and lived experience. The Research Coordinator will have many opportunities for development, and we encourage applications even from those who do not meet every listed qualification.
