Occ Summary

Serve as the DUHS Workplace Violence Prevention & Emergency Management (DUHS WPV/EM) Coordinator for the assigned DUHS district providing general administration in planning, coordinating, maintaining, and updating the Duke University Health System (DUHS) Emergency Operations Plan including both internal and external event responses. The DUHS Emergency Operations Plan is inclusive of workplace violence prevention, safety, and security related matters. Report to the Assistant Vice President DUHS of Workplace Violence Prevention and Emergency Management.



Work Performed

Implements and monitors security processes in the medical environment that are consistent with regulatory and industry standards, and Duke University Campus Police Department (CP), Duke Health System and medical facility leadership expectations. implement security policy and procedures in compliance with hospital policies and state and federal laws.

Manage performance to ensure quality outcomes by establishing performance standards and goals for security operations and contract security vendors.

Supervise, educate, train, and mentor healthcare security personnel. Work collaboratively with the Director, Health System security and hospital leadership to develop consistent policies, measures, and security technologies.

Develop and maintain the DUHS Emergency Operations Plan for facilities within the assigned district, ensure that the plan is maintained and up to date, and that the plan meets JC standards. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the Workplace Violence Prevention Program (WVPP) within the assigned DUHS district. Provides leadership and direction, and is responsible for identifying, evaluating, mitigating and responding to any workplace violence issues impacting the organization, employees, and physical environment. Coordinate the development of education programs to support workplace violence prevention and emergency management functions. Education will include, but not be limited to, facility lockdown procedures, active threat response, mass casualty, and information technology disruption. Orchestrate the execution of required exercises and drills as required of each facility type within the DUHS district as outlined by Joint Commission requirements. Convene an interdepartmental critique of each drill and record recommendations and lessons learned. Develop other more specific and frequent drills as deemed necessary by the committee or the sub-committees. Participate with internal and external task forces, committees, and agencies regarding security, safety, and emergency preparedness including those at the health system, local, regional, and state levels. Serve as the on-call liaison for all DUHS entities within the assigned DUHS district to support emergency responses for workplace violence prevention, security, and emergency management-related issues. Rotating on-call for nights, weekends, and holidays. Support the implementation and on-going education of the Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), the key element of the DUHS Emergency Management Plan, including supporting the following responsibility areas: Security and Safety, Communications, Training, Operations, Logistics, Planning, Finance and Operations. Provide project management support for various emergency scenarios for external events (trauma, bio-terrorism, chemical, nuclear), and internal events (fire, weather, damaged utilities, etc.). Provides assistance to thecommand staff during a local event that requires the activation of the DUHS command center or any entity that falls within the assigned DUHS district. Develop project plans and timelines for accomplishing outstanding tasks. Identify inconsistencies among plans and proposes corrective measures. Responsible for activating the DUHS Emergency Communications platform for entities within the assigned DUHS district to ensure timely notification and activation of entity based plans. Ensure that the Emergency Management Call Lists are up to date and functional, conduct quarterly reviews and verification of hospital call lists, and publish updates. Work with local experts to ensure that emergency preparedness equipment and supplies are available and in good working order. Assists in the coordination of recommending purchase of supplies/equipment as necessary. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Competent with computer software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MSTeams, etc. Strong leadership skills, interpersonal skills, consensus building skills. Comfortable developing and delivering presentations. Operational problem solving/decision making experience. Demonstrated ability to multi-task with strong written and verbal communication, presentation, training, facilitation, and leadership, and teaching skills, and the ability to organize and facilitate large groups. Demonstrated ability to work independently and also to work effectively in a team environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires a Bachelor Degree. Masters Degree preferred.



Experience

Work requires four years' experience in healthcare management, disastermanag ement, or project administration. Experience in leading teams required. Training or experience in Project Management required. Prior training, certification and experience in the following areas strongly preferred: emergency planning and management, emergency department, emergency medical services and/or fire services, risk management, hazardous materials management.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

A valid Driver's license is required. Certifications in Emergency Management from FEMA, NEMA, or related agencies are required within 6months of hire (ICS 100, 200 , 300, 400, 700, & 800).
