Position Purpose

The Social Media and Digital Content Strategist position is responsible for creating and adapting content to elevate the Cockrell School of Engineering's reputation and engage priority audiences across channels, primarily on social media and also web and email. In close partnership with the digital marketing coordinator, the strategist will develop campaigns that are engaging, audience-centered, and grounded in performance insights. This position requires fluency and strategic use of the following platforms, in priority order: LinkedIn Instagram YouTube X Facebook BlueSky

Responsibilities
  • Lead promotion of Cockrell School brand through social media to raise awareness nationally and globally. Propose, execute and refine organic and paid social media campaigns. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships across UT and with external brands.

  • Create compelling digital content campaigns using social media as a core driver while ensuring alignment across all digital channels. Tailor content, frequency and tone for all audiences and platforms.

  • Be the bridge between story creation and content distribution. Partner with the editorial manager to ensure stories are appealing to target audiences. Create short-form videos, reels, graphics and social copy that balance engineering and entertainment in approachable, fun ways. Work with the multimedia producer and brand manager on photo, video, and design projects. Partner with the digital marketing coordinator for email and web distribution and to set a data-based multichannel strategy.

  • Execute leadership communications via social media, supporting the Dean's social media presence and planning content. Advise the Dean and other leadership clients on engagement strategies.

  • Recruit and manage student workers to assist in content creation and moderation.

  • Track, analyze and share content performance with the team to shape future storytelling efforts. Ensure social, web and email insights guide campaign strategies.

  • Assist with the planning, development and promotion of team projects, including Cockrell School magazines and research content.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Fours (4) years of professional experience in digital content strategy, social media, or digital communications

  • Proficiency in capturing and editing short-form video and digital media for social and web

  • Experience using social media analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social) and interpreting data to inform content strategy

  • Outgoing, collaborative, proactive mindset and strong communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop content that resonates with tech-savvy audiences

  • Excitement about being on both sides of the camera as needed

  • Interest in engineering and storytelling that elevates research and impact

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a complex organization such as a university, nonprofit, or mission-driven institution

  • Familiarity with web and email marketing best practices and coordination

  • Understanding of brand strategy and content planning in an academic or professional environment

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions
  • May work around standard office environment

  • Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation

Work Shift
  • Standard work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
