Facilities Superintendent
Purpose:
Colonna's Shipyard is seeking a Facilities Superintendent to support operations at our site Norfolk, VA.
The Facilities Superintendent plays a key role in the successful execution of construction and maintenance projects across the yard. This field-based position is responsible for supervising subcontractors, vendors, and laborers, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, and in accordance with specifications. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience in marine industrial construction and excels at coordinating teams and resources in a dynamic environment.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk VA and will often require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require occasional travel.
Job Description:


  • Support Project Managers in planning and executing projects.
  • Supervise assigned staff and laborers on-site.
  • Coordinate subcontractor activities and ensure compliance with project plans and specifications.
  • Review construction documents, scopes of work, and contracts.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs and timely project documentation.
  • Communicate project updates and issues to the Project Manager.
  • Verify material deliveries for accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with subcontractor/vendor payment processing.
  • Manage on-site material distribution and maintain a clean, organized worksite.
  • Operate and maintain certifications for heavy equipment (e.g., forklift, zoom boom, excavator).
  • Enforce safety protocols and monitor job site quality control.
  • Perform basic construction tasks (e.g., digging, cutting, drilling, grinding).


Qualifications:


  • Must have a High School diploma or equivalent and at least (3) three years of construction experience, preferably in a marine industrial setting.
  • Must have strong ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Must have proven experience managing subcontractors, vendors, and diverse teams.
  • Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Must be familiar with construction methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control.
  • Must have reliable attendance and availability for overtime/weekend work as needed.


Physical Requirements:


  • Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
  • Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
  • Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions.
  • Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
  • Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
  • While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
  • Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
  • Frequent use of respirator.
