Overview
Brandes Associates Inc. is seeking a TacMobile/P-8A Subject Matter Expert / Systems' Engineer with 3+ years of experience, who will provide subject matter expertise and engineering support services within an Integrated Product Team for Mission Planning Systems at Camarillo/Point Mugu CA. The candidate must be a self-starter who takes on challenges, collaborates well in teams, and will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and execution of various software-based projects within an Agile software development environment. This position supports various systems engineering activities consistent with the development, modernization, releasability and sustainment of customer products. Salary The typical annual salary range for this position is $90,000.00 USD to $130,000.00 USD. Salary will be based on current qualifications, directly related experience, geographic location, and possible contractual requirements which could fall outside of this range.
Responsibilities
Serve as technical SME and systems analyst for TacMobile/P-8A Mission Planning Capability (MPC) software across development, integration, testing, and technical writing support
- Translate complex engineering requirements into executable solutions for legacy modernization and new capability development
- Provide domain expertise in aviation mission planning, software safety, and FMS program requirements
- Analyze Change Requests (CRs/ICRs), evaluating technical feasibility and system impact
- Be able to help review Interface documents as needed for alignment with Mission Planning needs
- Analyze user requirements and procedures to automate and improve existing software systems while ensuring compliance standards
- Collaborate with QA teams to process system anomaly reports (SARs), analyze problems, and propose solutions aligned with fleet requirements
- Document and resolve technical obstacles for developers, testers, and technical writers through systematic engineering analysis
- Facilitate conflict resolution between team members and functional areas to ensure project alignment
- Provide systems engineering expertise in an Agile/SAFe environment with stakeholders for implementation purposes
- Apply user/fleet-centered design principles and agile methodologies to development processes
- Provide project feedback on workflow optimization
- Generate high-quality technical reports and executive presentations for leadership decision-making and program oversight
- Lead peer reviews of technical documentation ensuring accuracy against system requirements and design specifications
- Maintain comprehensive technical logs of engineering decisions, events, and system modifications
- Work with technical writer to review and provide feedback related to procedural guidelines for stakeholder operations, system maintenance, and troubleshooting protocols
- Document expertise across user domains through network collaboration and knowledge sharing initiatives
- Ensure systematic problem-solving for efficiency, safety, and operational effectiveness
- Provide feedback on user interfaces based on Naval Mission Planning standards incorporating fleet feedback and requirements
- Assist in creating developer-friendly wireframes for NextGen TacMobile/P-8 Mission Planning Services suites
- Optimize user experience through iterative design and stakeholder input integration
- Be able to analyze and recommend COTS solutions through technical assessments and integration feasibility studies
- Modify requirements and specifications based on stakeholder feedback, testing results, and operational constraints
- Validate technical writer output against build-to specifications and engineering standards
Qualifications
- Between 3 and 10 years of experience performing the duties described in the responsibilities description
- Experience with requirements development
- Experience with database entity relationship diagram
- Experience with xml schema definition
- Experience with mission planning capability software development concept and processes
- Knowledge on Software safety
- Knowledge of FMS programs is desired
- Experience with aviation mission planning is desired
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills-verbal, non-verbal, written, and listening-for staff, customer, and organizational level communications, both formal and informal
- Ability to work independently or lead a small team, self-starter
- Working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
EDUCATION Degree: BS or BA degree in Systems Engineering or a relevant technical discipline. Allowable Substitution: An additional 6 years of relevant work experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree, or 4 additional years of work experience with a relevant associate degree. Between 3 to 10 years of experience performing the duties described in the functional description. CLEARANCE Condition of Employment: Applicant must have an active DoD SECRET Clearance.
