Job Overview
T-Mobile is seeking a seasoned System Architecture Engineer to lead the design and evolution of its nationwide broadband platform, with a core focus on Fixed Wireless Access. This role will architect end-to-end systems spanning CPE (e.g., RDK, OpenWRT), large-scale telemetry pipelines, device management platforms (TR-369/USP), and cloud-native service orchestration. You'll act as the technical authority driving architecture for broadband services used by tens of millions of customers-shaping core design decisions, managing multi-vendor solution ecosystems, and contributing to industry standards. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience scaling broadband infrastructure, leading vendor execution, and translating strategy into performant, supportable architectures. This is a rare opportunity to impact T-Mobile's fastest-growing business, influence the global broadband roadmap, and work across everything from firmware to cloud APIs-all while driving billions in service delivery and capital investment.
Job Responsibilities: Technical System Expertise:
- Serve as the broadband domain authority across Fixed Wireless Access systems, with deep technical knowledge of broadband CPE architecture (including RDK, OpenWRT, and SOC/firmware integration), device management protocols (TR-369/USP), and scalable cloud infrastructure. Architect and document systems that span millions of endpoints, including telemetry pipelines, real-time customer-facing APIs, and backend service layers. Drive root cause analysis and architectural remediation for complex performance, scale, and reliability issues. Develop system-wide models of service behavior, and continuously evaluate component interactions, cost tradeoffs, and design scalability.
Technical Engineering Services:
- Lead end-to-end architecture execution by transforming strategic concepts into actionable technical roadmaps. Coordinate across multiple internal and external engineering teams (including SOC vendors, OEMs, and cloud partners) to deliver interoperable broadband solutions. Author architecture specifications, interface contracts, and sequencing documents to support service integration and delivery. Oversee architectural implementation and validation for key subsystems including CI/CD platforms, telemetry ingestion layers, broadband analytics, and lifecycle management services.
Innovation:
- Identify and prototype disruptive broadband solutions that improve performance, reliability, or operational simplicity at scale. Influence product direction by tracking emerging standards and vendor capabilities across the broadband industry. Engage with silicon, hardware & cloud vendors early in the product lifecycle to ensure architecture alignment and long-term supportability. Lead cross-functional investigations into broadband service bottlenecks or innovation opportunities, including next-gen device provisioning, cloud-native orchestration patterns, and lifecycle intelligence.
Technical Writing:
- Produce clear and comprehensive architecture documents that define broadband subsystems, data flows, edge/cloud interaction patterns, and operational behaviors. Write and maintain high-quality technical artifacts including API definitions, interface specs, sequence diagrams, and architecture review decks. Prepare and deliver presentations tailored to technical audiences, executive stakeholders, and external partners. Contribute to standardization artifacts (e.g., Broadband Forum, RDK community), and lead technical content for PoC evaluations and RFIs.
Technical Leadership:
- Establish and drive broadband architecture strategy across multi-vendor ecosystems, internal platform teams, and national-scale broadband operations. Represent T-Mobile in industry working groups and influence global technology direction for home internet. Mentor and guide engineering teams on technology decisions, coding standards, and architecture principles. Conduct architectural reviews, evaluate design decisions, and ensure consistent application of system-level best practices. Lead vendor technical assessments, ensuring architectural integrity and high-quality deliverables.
Technology Strategy:
- Evaluate emerging technologies and standards relevant to T-Mobile's broadband evolution. Formulate architecture positions and technology roadmaps that align with FWA growth, nationwide scale, and business model evolution. Define long-term service architecture strategies-including disaggregation, telemetry intelligence, and cloud-native scalability-and influence platform direction across partner and internal teams. Collaborate with finance, product, and operations stakeholders to drive capital-effective design decisions grounded in NPV, ROI, and long-term TCO.
