The Clinical Pharmacist ensures the overall integrity, safety, rationality, and effectiveness of the drug use control process for all patients in the assigned geographic or specialty area, including the following patient groups: Neonates, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics. Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire:
Current licensure with the Virginia State Board of Pharmacy required or obtained within the first 90 days of employment
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment:
Licensed as a Pharmacist with the Virginia Board of Pharmacy
Experience REQUIRED: N/A
Experience PREFERRED:
Minimum of one (1) year of pharmacy practice experience in a similar setting or residency training (see below)
Previous experience with state of the art drug distribution and clinical service methods
Education/training REQUIRED:
Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited academic program
Education/training PREFERRED:
PGY1, ASHP-accredited residency
PGY2, ASHP-accredited residency
Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an accredited academic program
Independent action(s) required:
The monitoring, screening, and verification of all drug-related orders for assurance of proper dosage, route, dosage form, and administration schedule.
Ensure expedited preparation and dispensing of all dosage forms by pharmacy personnel.
Resolve drug therapy problems.
Clarify and correct problematic drug orders.
Designate pharmacy technicians to perform special assignments. Evaluate employees' and students' performance.
Counsel patients regarding the safe and proper use of their medications.
Resolve equipment and operational problems. Interact with other health care practitioners in a multidisciplinary environment.
Monitor the effects of medications, and recommend and/or initiate appropriate adjustments to achieve desired medication-related outcomes.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable):
Supervise the actions of Pharmacy Interns and Certified Pharmacy Technicians as set forth in the Pharmacy Act and the Drug Control Act with related statutes and regulations of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy.
Supervise the actions of pharmacy residents as set forth in Department of Pharmacy Services.

Must be available to work evenings, nights and weekends.

VCU Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced Clinical Pharmacy Specialist to join the pediatric acute care team at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR). This role provides clinical pharmacy services to general acute care pediatric units, supporting children with a wide range of medical conditions in a collaborative, care team focused on family-centered care. As part of CHoR'snationally ranked pediatric hospital, the pharmacy specialist will work alongside a multidisciplinary team to optimize medication therapy, improve patient outcomes, and contribute to the academic and clinical mission of VCU Health.

The Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is a nationally ranked, full-service pediatric hospital offering care across more than 50 specialties. Located in downtown Richmond, CHoRincludes:

* The Children's Tower, a 144-bed inpatient facility opened in 2023.

* The region's only Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

Key Responsibilities:

Deliver direct clinical pharmacy services to pediatric patients in general acute care units.

Participate in daily multidisciplinary rounds and provide evidence-based pharmacotherapy recommendations.

Monitor and adjust medication therapy for safety, efficacy, and cost-effectiveness.

Educate patients, families, and health care providers on medication use and safety.

Precept pharmacy residents and students.

Develop and implement clinical protocols, guidelines, and quality improvement initiatives.

Support CHoR'scommitment to family-centered care, engaging families in shared decision-making.

Required Qualifications:

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited institution.

Completion of a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (required) and PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency (preferred). Equivalent pediatric clinical experience may be considered.

Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Board Certification in Pediatric Pharmacy (BCPPS) preferred or obtained within 1 year of hire.

Strong clinical knowledge in pediatric pharmacotherapy and excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a pediatric academic medical center or children's hospital.

Involvement in professional pharmacy or pediatric health care organizations.

Demonstrated leadership in clinical practice, education, or research.
