Role Description:

The Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures and utilities. The worker in this position is subject to being placed on call during hours and schedule identified by the Authority.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Cleans, levels, grades, seeds, sods, cultivates land, plants, mulches, and fertilizes shrubs and trees. Prunes shrubbery and trees.
  • Cuts grass with complicated deck riding turf mowers up to seventy-two (72) inches, dual wheel riding mowers and PTO driven mowers, which at times the blades must be raised and lowered manually.
  • Maintains and repairs equipment such as the changing of blades and/or pulleys on the self propelled, turf and riding mowers.
  • Operates and/or drives a tractor heavy duty five (5) ton dump truck and forklifts. Operates Authority vehicles as an essential function of the position. Maintains vehicles and/or equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Reports any operating deficiencies to the appropriate Authority personnel.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools such as pruning shears, clippers, shovels and mattocks, hoes, rakes, etc. in the performance of maintenance and landscaping duties.
  • Removes snow by using hand equipment such as snow shovels and power snow blowers.
  • Arranges and transports furnishings, cleans windows, removes window screens and doors; empties trash; unstops storm, roof and floor drains. Occasionally may be required to vacuum, buff, and wax floors and dust furniture.
  • Complies with applicable safety rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.

Required Experience:
Two (2) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to maintain and upkeep building facilities.
Minimum Education Requirements:
High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
Required Skills:
Knowledge of appropriate landscaping methods and techniques to perform gardening assignments
Ability to use a variety of motorized tools and accessories to cut and prune grass and shrubbery
Skill in manipulating tractor controls for smooth starting, stopping, and maneuvering the tractor and towing vehicles in congested areas.
Required Licenses & Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid Motor Vehicle Operating License
