Position Highlights |
The College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Arizona is in search of an Ambulatory Technician. The ambulatory technician provides essential support to the clinical education mission of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) by assisting with the day-to-day operations of the large animal ambulatory rotation. This position plays a key role in ensuring smooth, safe, and effective field experiences for DVM students, offering hands-on support in large animal medicine including cattle, horses, small ruminants, and honey bees as well as student transportation and field-based instruction. The ambulatory technician must be highly dependable, organized, and comfortable working in a dynamic, outdoor environment. Early mornings (including 5:00-6:00 am starts) and non-traditional hours are a regular part of this role. In addition to supporting clinical instruction, this role is responsible for maintaining inventory, managing equipment and vehicle readiness, and facilitating communication between faculty, students, and external partners. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Support the efficient execution of ambulatory visits for large animal including cattle, horses, small ruminants and honey bees alongside veterinary faculty and students. Provide technical assistance during field procedures including restraint, sample collection and submission, wound treatment, anesthetic monitoring, and other therapeutic interventions, administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian, and accurately document medical notes and records.
- Demonstrate ability to work with a diverse population of students (or clients), including younger generations, while supporting their educational goals. Must be adaptable, open to learning in real time, and committed to a growth mindset in order to serve as a mentor and learning leader for others.
- Oversee and maintain organization of all supplies,
medications, and equipment for multiple ambulatory vehicles; conduct regular inventories and place purchase orders proactively. - Adhere to and communicate university, college, and facility
protocols. Ensure the ambulatory unit and vehicle are clean, well-maintained, and compliant with biosecurity protocols; safely and reliably transport students, equipment, and supplies from the Oro Valley campus to and from site locations. - Act as a reliable ambassador of the College, maintaining
professionalism in all client and field interactions and performing other duties as assigned. - Additional duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required, CVT preferred
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Practical experience, including handling of the following species: horses, cattle, and small ruminants.
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) preferred.
- Over 5 years of relevant work experience in animal husbandry and healthcare.
- Teaching experience.
