Position Highlights

The University of Arizona, Campus Health Service (CHS) seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Physician for the Primary Care and Sports Medicine department. This position is responsible for working with CHS Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and other healthcare professionals to provide primary care to eligible University of Arizona students, faculty and staff. In addition to providing general primary care & sports medicine services, they will be primary point of contact for student-athletes in our adaptive and club sports programs, and provide or supervise medical coverage for sporting events in those programs.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct medical examinations, diagnose, prescribe, and treat CHS' patients while practicing within clinical skill and competencies.
  • Provide effective patient care and initiate arrangement for continuing definitive care.
  • Be primary medical resource for adaptive and club sports programs, including medical coverage for sporting events.
  • Consult with other healthcare providers.
  • Provide technical direction to nurse practitioners, RN's and health science students, medical residents, and primary care sports medicine fellows if applicable.
  • Cooperative interaction with other CHS clinical staff and support staff.
  • Provide teaching and mentoring opportunities for University of Arizona or affiliated health care trainees.
  • Involvement in committees and teams as appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Good oral and written communication skills
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctor's degree from an accredited school of medicine or approved school of osteopathic medicine.
  • Board eligibility or certification in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine or Pediatric/Adolescent Medicine.
  • Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine.
  • License to practice medicine in the State of Arizona or eligibility for same.
  • Must have or be eligible for DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certification.
  • Arizona prescriptive privileges required or eligibility for same.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in college health.
  • Experience working with an electronic medical record.
  • Experience in quality improvement including peer review, within a clinical setting.
  • Experience with point of care ultrasound.
  • Five years of relevant clinical/administrative experience.
  • Experience working with Certified Athletic Trainers supervising injury management and prevention.
