Position Highlights

The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education. The Cancer Research Training & Education Coordination (CRTEC) office within UACC was established in 2018. CRTEC's goal is to promote the development of the next generation of cancer researchers and health professionals.

The CRTEC office is seeking to hire multiple Research Technician II positions that will be a part of the cancer research training program called the "Center for Innovation in Cancer Research (CICR) Post-Baccalaureate Fellows Program." Funding for the program comes from the American Cancer Society. Successful applicants will spend two years in the program, conducting and supporting cancer-related laboratory or field research under the guidance of the faculty member who is leading the research.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carries out research projects following established protocols in order to meet the goals of a research group, maintaining logs and records of experimental data
  • Analyzes data and interprets research results; writes research progress reports documenting the experimental plan, data and interpretations, to communicate the findings to the team leader(s) and any collaborators.
  • Involved and familiar with research studies being conducted, the applicable background, research protocols and procedures.
  • As appropriate for the research project, uses and maintains scientific equipment needed to carry out the research tasks.
  • Conducts library and computer searches for research; modifies established protocols to meet the needs of the project and improve tests that are unsatisfactory.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of research content, practices and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a science field.

Special Instructions to Applicant The application process for this position involves individuals submitting an application to the training program being administered by the Cancer Center. That application consists of a personal statement describing the individual's motivation for participating in the Center for Innovation in Cancer Research (CICR) Post-Baccalaureate Fellows Program and how they became interested in cancer research, a resume and undergraduate transcript(s). The applications are reviewed by a committee of Cancer Center members: Jacob Schwartz, PhD, Jennifer Carew, PhD, Jen Bea, PhD, and Cynthia Miranti, PhD. The selection committee decides on four successful applicants based on these individuals showing the greatest potential for success in a doctoral degree program following the two years in the Post-Baccalaureate Program. Those individuals will be instructed to apply to this Research Technician II position in order to be in the University of Arizona's employment/workforce system.
