What your job will be like:
The incumbent will work in the RF group within the Accelerator Engineering Services department. The individual will participate in maintaining equipment and infrastructure, testing performance of Low Level RF (LLRF) equipment (RF receivers, analog and digital instrumentation), High Power RF (HPRF) equipment (High voltage power supplies, klystrons, and solid state amplifiers), installation of new and advanced RF systems, interpreting system requirements and assist in the development of new systems. The candidate will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists, technicians, and accelerator operators to support operation of the machine. Under general supervision, the incumbent will be trained for real-time support, repair, and testing. The person in this position will be responsible for following safety guidelines, system documentation, and repairs for Low Level RF equipment, High Power RF equipment, firmware/software verification, RF measurements, and data analysis. The incumbent will also be involved in the daily operations of the RF systems including, system monitoring, testing of LLRF and HPRF systems after repair, Hot checkout of components after maintenance periods. The incumbent is responsible for documenting their work in operations logbooks, maintenance records, "as built" drawings and any other forms as required by management. The incumbent will work under general supervision of an Electrical Engineering supervisor and complete assigned tasks utilizing work control documents and safety procedures.

In this role you will:


  • Install, maintain test and repair JLAB RF systems and equipment throughout the lab complex.
  • Support operations as a work coordinator on-call and responding to after-hours operational needs.
  • Assist the engineering staff in designing and upgrading RF system components including low and high power RF systems.
  • Update and verify "as built" electrical and mechanical drawings and procedures.
  • Plans work for short term and intermediate assignments and coordinate work with others in the group.
  • Complete safety inspections of work areas and test stands.
  • Inspect electrical components or assemblies to qualify for installations.

Qualifications We Require

Education


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology

Experience


  • Experience with the following test equipment: oscilloscope, function generator, multi-meters for electrical measurements.
  • Experience soldering wires and electronic components.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, diagrams and rudimentary mechanical drawings.
  • Ability to safely troubleshoot and understand operation of electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles including electrical circuit theory, electromagnetics, power electronics, control systems, thermodynamics.
  • Ability to interact constructively with technical staff, through writing or verbal communication, in a dynamic R&D environment.
  • On-call support of RF power systems during scheduled operational periods.
  • Familiarity with the any of the following software: Spice for electrical simulations, Printed Circuit Board (PCB) CAD software, Electrical wiring and Mechanical CAD software, Labview.
