What your job will be like:
The Accelerator Computing Environment Systems and Network Administrator serves as one of the primary Linux Systems Administrators for the Accelerator and Engineering Divisions. This includes all aspects of Systems Administration of systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux devoted to the control and operation of Accelerator Facilities (CEBAF, LERF, SRF and ITF), as well as the systems used in development and testing for these environments. As a secondary focus, this position will also serve as a Network Administrator responsible for maintaining and administering networks dedicated to the control and operation of the Accelerator Controls Networks. In these roles, the incumbent will architect solutions, manage resources, troubleshoot problems, and lead projects that support and enhance the Accelerator Computing Environment.

In this role you will:


  • Install, support and troubleshoot all levels of hardware, software and operating system problems for workstations, servers and laptops running Windows and Linux.
  • Support all aspects of the computing infrastructure of the Accelerator Computing Environment. This includes but is not limited to desktops, servers, SCADA systems, test-stands, data acquisition systems, embedded systems, network and power infrastructure, etc...).
  • Lead and contribute to projects that support and enhance the Accelerator Computing Environment by improving the functionality, security, and reliability of the control system computers, networks and development systems.
  • Develop and maintain system administration tools in a variety of shell programming languages (PowerShell, python, csh and bash).
  • Manage user and group accounts, mail-lists, and networking services (Kerberos, LDAP, DNS, and NFS).
  • Provide on-call support for Accelerator Operations as needed.
  • Serve as a solutions architect and technical expert on special projects as requested by external groups.

Qualifications We Require

Education


  • Bachelor's Degree Computer Science or a relevant field

Experience


  • 3 or more years Experience administering UNIX-based systems and networks.
  • Experience writing shell scripts and utilizing command line tools.
  • Experience with broad range of programing languages (bash, python, java, PowerShell, etc...).
  • Education above the minimum may be substituted for experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


  • Highly knowledgeable in the system administration of Linux, Windows and Virtualization technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge in workstation and server hardware installation and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledgeable of networking technologies, infrastructure and hardware.
  • Ability to implement, administer, and troubleshoot network devices including WAPs, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers.
  • Familiarity with data storage and backup technologies.
  • Obtain Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) within 1-1/2 Yrs
