Purpose of the Role

As a Principal Cost Specialist at Worley, you will be responsible for leading and coordinating cost control efforts across large-scale, technically complex projects in the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors. You will play a key role in ensuring the financial health of projects through the development of robust cost management systems, clear reporting practices, and strategic analysis. Your work directly supports Worley's purpose of delivering a more sustainable world by driving cost visibility, accountability, and informed decision-making throughout the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead cost control efforts across major projects, ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and consistency of cost data and reporting.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineering, procurement, and finance teams to align cost control processes with overall project and organizational goals.

  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses that support proactive project planning and financial accountability.

  • Prepare and present detailed cost performance reports and dashboards for internal stakeholders and clients, highlighting risks, opportunities, and trends.

  • Drive cost integration with planning, scheduling, procurement, and accounting systems, supporting a data-driven approach to project delivery.

  • Review and validate field-reported cost data through regular interaction with project sites to ensure reporting accuracy and completeness.

  • Monitor scope changes, contract adjustments, and trends that impact overall project costs and ensure all changes are captured and communicated.

  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to cost team members and contribute to staff development through knowledge sharing and coaching.

  • Recommend and support improvements to cost control systems, tools, and processes, in alignment with Worley's digital transformation and sustainability objectives.

  • Contribute to sustainability reporting by tracking and identifying cost elements tied to environmental and social performance goals.

Qualifications / Skill Set

  • Skilled in presenting financial and project performance data in a clear and concise manner to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Deep understanding of cost control integration with scheduling, procurement, and contract management processes.

  • Effective communicator and collaborator with a strong ability to work across diverse teams and engage with clients and leadership.

  • Experience in mentoring or supervising junior cost personnel, with a commitment to fostering a learning-focused team environment.
