Our Police Service Representatives make up the communications and records management center of the Champaign Police Department. They are the go-to subject matter experts in a wide range of areas. Why? Because, as the Department’s front line support staff, they receive and respond to all manner of questions and requests for information from officers, law enforcement agencies, and community members. As a team, they do this 24 hours/day, 365 days/year with each team member working an assigned shift with two consecutive days off per week.

Benefits include paid sick, personal, and vacation leave and 11 holidays per year as well as health and life insurance and a pension through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). The City offers a one-time Residency Incentive Reimbursement of $2,500 to eligible employees who establish residency or relocate within the City of Champaign. Applications must be submitted online no later than Sunday, August 17, 2025.

Responsibilities of Position

Police Service Representatives are customer service, information, and data experts. They utilize multiple sources including specialized police-related computer systems to research, enter, retrieve, and analyze information. A LOT of information. Including following up on approximately 62,000 calls each year. And they share this information by phone, email and other written correspondence, radio, and in-person. They are in the know and a great resource to officers and community members – they answer questions, resolve issues, maintain records, monitor building security, and more, sometimes simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and accuracy and in a timely manner.
