POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State's Office of Strategic Communications, the University's central public relations and marketing division, is seeking a Digital Content Strategist to help align effective storytelling with Penn State brand messaging and digital strategy across the institution's flagship web platforms, including psu.edu and news.psu.edu.

The Digital Content Strategist will build page strategies, collaborate with internal partners, and strive to align content with the University's digital and brand goals, specifically for high-impact areas involving enrollment management and institutional reputation. This role shares responsibilities for digital content strategy development, content optimization and analysis, and content governance.

The person in this position will work cross-functionally with user experience, design, marketing, and technical teams in the Office of Strategic Communications, as well as with stakeholders from across the institution to drive unified digital marketing strategies.

This role has the potential to be performed fully remote or as a hybrid of working remote and on-site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement user-first content strategies aligned with institutional goals
  • Plan and manage editorial calendars and determine appropriate content types
  • Create, review, and optimize website content for clarity, SEO, and accessibility
  • Organize content within a complex information architecture
  • Analyze performance metrics in collaboration with Strategic Communications' analytics team
  • Ensure content reflects brand voice and editorial standards
  • Work with business partners to clarify messaging for external audiences
  • Collaborate with technical teams to support accessibility and performance goals
  • Use web content management systems to update and manage content
  • Document strategy decisions and content governance practices

Qualifications

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong attention to clarity, tone, and grammar
  • Proven experience writing engaging website and online marketing content
  • Experience with SEO and content performance tools like Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with content hierarchies and style guides
  • Familiarity with navigation, redirects, and site audit tools
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards and content management systems
  • Strategic thinking and experience aligning content with business needs

This position is filled at the Advanced Professional level.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted Required Certifications: None

SALARY & BENEFITS

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades, is $61,800.00 - $89,600.00.
