Position Description

The Department of Interdisciplinary Human Sciences in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor with a preferred start date of January 1, 2026. We welcome applicants with a strong research program related to human sciences.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate evidence of strong research productivity or a clear path to developing an impactful research program supported by extramural funding as well as the ability to mentor graduate and undergraduate student research. The successful applicant will be appointed at a rank commensurate with their experience and research productivity, limited to either Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.

About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Interdisciplinary Human Sciences (IHS) is committed to addressing the evolving needs of individuals, families, and communities by preparing educators, researchers, leaders, and advocates who promote wellness across multiple contexts.

The IHS Department includes 13 full-time faculty, three part-time faculty, and a vibrant student body of approximately 1,200, comprised of 1,100 undergraduates, 70 master's students, and 37 doctoral students.

Academic Programs
The department offers a range of impactful interdisciplinary degree programs, including:

  • Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  • Master's degrees in Human Sciences and Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  • Accelerated Bachelor's to Master's in Human Sciences and Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  • Bachelor's degrees in Human Sciences and Family and Consumer Sciences Education
  • Dual Bachelor's degree in Human Sciences and Nursing

Research and Engagement
IHS faculty are actively engaged in research that aims to 1) inform health and wellness promotion, prevention, intervention, and implementation; and 2) identify determinants of career readiness and career development. The department is also home to two signature centers that support its teaching, research, and outreach missions, the Center for Adolescent Resiliency and the Curriculum Center for Family and Consumer Sciences.

Major/Essential Functions

Faculty Qualifications

1. Earned doctorate in a field related to Health and Human Sciences (e.g., family sciences, human development, family and consumer sciences, public health), or a related discipline by the time of appointment.

2. Evidence of an organized program of research in Health and Human Sciences, either emerging or established.

3. Evidence of effective collegiate teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

1. Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate research.

2. Experience developing and facilitating online asynchronous courses using methods that maximize accessibility.

3. Commitment to community engaged teaching, research, or similar engaged scholarship projects.

4. Demonstrated record of collaborative, interdisciplinary research.

5. Experience with grant writing and submission, with a record of securing extramural funding.
