About the role

The Operations Planner is responsible for collaborating daily with the Maintenance Planner to identify system isolations necessary to facilitate work, prepare Lock Out/Tag Outs (LOTO), identify applicable procedures, and review Safe Work Permits for accuracy and thoroughness. This position reports to the facility Operations Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting personal and group technical training on proper application of Lock Out/Tag Out, Safe Work Permits, and Safe Operating Procedures as required. Maintain the current list of qualified Requesters.
  • Oversight and updating of the operator logs, SOPs, P&IDs, training programs, and implementing new processes for data collection and tracking utilizing the new technologies available.
  • Provide relief for the Shift Supervisors during short-term absence as required. The Operations Planner will also assist with vacation coverage as needed. When in relief for the Shift Supervisor, the Operations Planner will review, prioritize, and direct the daily work activities for the shift. Direct the functional activities of the Control Room Operator, Assistant Control Room Operator, Auxiliary Operator, Equipment and Utility Operator.
  • Conduct weekly audit of Jumper/Bypass log, SWP, and LO/TOs
  • Overseeing and prioritizing requests for removing equipment from service for maintenance, or other purposes, and ensuring the equipment is properly cleared and tagged in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Assist the Facility Safety Coordinator with administering the safety program, including presenting training in their absence.
  • Participating in daily/monthly meetings with the Shift Supervisors and facility management staff.
  • During emergency or unusual situations, shall direct or, if necessary, personally perform the required operations or corrective actions, as well as coordinate the activities of all personnel involved.
  • Serve as emergency coordinator in the absence of the Facility/Department Managers.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Operations Manager/Plant Management.

Position Requirements

  • A high school diploma or a general education degree (GED) is required; a Bachelor's degree is a plus.
  • Broad background in plant operations, including at least 3 years' experience in power or resource recovery plant operations required.
  • Hands-on and/or supervisory experience working with high-pressure boilers and electric generation equipment is required.
  • ASME QRO Site Specific Operator Certification (License) required; must be able to become site-specific certified within 6 months of hire.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general administrative periodicals, technical procedures, and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence as well as effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and subordinates.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to take appropriate safe action on his/her own initiative to prevent equipment damage or injury to personnel during emergencies or unusual situations.
  • Ability to motivate employees and maintain high morale.

  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator
  • Consistently work in various weather conditions
