The Detroitoffice of SmithGroupis looking for aBusiness Development Managerto join our team.



Working with us, you will:



  • Perform market trends analysis and lead the coordination of introductory meetings with prospective clients.
  • Participate in the development of the strategic plan with Studio Leaders.
  • Monitor industry trends and collect market intelligence on clients and competitors by monitoring websites, collateral presentations, trade journals, and discussion lists.
  • Attend industry events for networking and relationship building.
  • Update and track clients through the Client Relationship Management system.
  • Actively research project opportunities through networking, personal relationships, cold calls, reading of publications, attending community events, and participating in industry organizations.
  • Conduct and analyze debrief surveys throughout the pursuit and project process.
  • Review opportunities with leadership to determine priority and whether to pursue.
  • Review and provide support to marketing leadership in creating proposals and interview strategy.
  • Assist in assembling and briefing the pursuit team to ensure all client requirements are met.
  • Perform ongoing research of industry/trade organizations and make recommendations on the value of memberships/sponsorships.
  • Use social media as a tool to share thought leadership and make the firm, its people, and individuals more visible.
  • Work toward involvement in professional organizations including potential committee positions.
  • Actively research and share key client data and create meeting agendas for team.



An ideal candidate has:



  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or related field, preferred.
  • 3 plus years of related experience required, some A/E/C experience preferred.
  • The ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills for effective presentations and interactions with internal/external clients.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Microsoft Teams as well as some experience using Microsoft Dynamics.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $81,000 to $89,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
