What You Will Do:

As a Leak Surveyor, you will play an essential role within our Engineering Services department, reporting to the Engineering Services Supervisor. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:



  • Conduct leak surveys: Perform regular and systematic leak surveys on natural gas pipelines and facilities using specialized equipment and tools.
  • Perform Line Locate requests of various types of Natural Gas Pipelines.
  • Identify and locate gas leaks in utility systems.
  • Document survey results and maintain accurate records.
  • Report findings to the appropriate departments for corrective action.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Ensure leak surveys and documentation is completed accurately according to PHMSA regulations.
  • Assist in emergency response situations as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and customers.
  • Interaction with the public: Interact with the public and customers in a polite and professional manner.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


What You Will Bring:



  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in gas utility systems preferred.
  • A minimum of two years' experience and proficiency in gas leak detection using various technical instruments that include the Advanced Methane Leak Detector system, Detecto Pak Infrared, RMLD, and Flame Ionization instruments.
  • Capable of operating computers and various measurement, and testing instruments, requiring hand-eye coordination.
  • Must possess a valid Alaska Driver's License and be qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the ENSTAR's Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass a drug, background, past employment, and driving record screening.


Preferred skills and qualifications:



  • Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to interact with individuals within and outside of ENSTAR.
  • Proficiency in Line Locating using various Line Locating equipment.
  • Ability to read maps, plats, aerial photographs, as-builts, and survey information.
  • Knowledge of ENSTAR's distribution as-built system and engineering filing system.
  • Ability to learn and understand ENSTAR's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ability to operate a computer and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
