General Summary of Position
We
are actively recruiting for a Research Assistant to join the Burn & Surgical
Research Lab at MedStar Health Research Institute in Washington, DC to support
both pre-clinical and clinical research. This position is PRN / as-needed
with no benefits. Estimated hours would be approximately 20 hours
per week with flexibility based on candidate needs as well as the needs of
ongoing research studies. The focus of the position will be in managing
bio-specimenand data repositories, including sample processing, logging,
cold storage organization, and using software to record specimen information as
well as collecting and entering associated clinical data. Additional
basic laboratory maintenance, supply chain, record keeping, and administrative
assistance may also be required. The individual in this position should be
organized and have proactive communication skills and phone etiquette, which
will be used both internally and with external collaborators and vendors.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel is desirable.

Minimum Qualifications
Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • One year of relevant education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience

  • Prior work experience not required
  • Experience in health care setting preferred
  • One year of relevant professional-level work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • "Technical Skills: Basic data entry, familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and willingness to learn new research tools and software.
  • Knowledge: Basic understanding of research principles and ethics, especially in clinical and/or health services research.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensures accuracy in data collection, entry, and documentation.
  • Organization: Able to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with team members and preparing reports.
  • Adaptability: Willingness to learn and take on new tasks, especially when exposed to new research methodologies or systems.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with researchers and staff to contribute to research goals.

This position has a hiring range of $18.33 - $31.61
