Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Mental Health Clinician II for the Eric B. Chandler Health Center at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Healthy Steps Specialist is an independently licensed mental health clinician who will provide early childhood developmental education, consultations, and care management in conjunction with the pediatric primary care team at RWJMS Eric B. Chandler Health Center. The healthy steps specialist will provide tiered services that include screening, evidence-based interventions, referrals to appropriate and available community resources, and care management follow-up for families with children aged 0-5 years.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Promotes Healthy Steps within the practice to families and providers.
  • Participate in Healthy Steps training and clinical supervision meetings.
  • Conducts consultations as part of the interdisciplinary pediatric primary care team. The number of consultations is determined by the tiered needs assessment of the child and family to address developmental concerns.
  • Collaborates with the family resource specialist (FRS) to assist the family with coordination of care and follow-up visits to confirm the family has successfully linked with recommended community resources.
  • Serve as the early childhood development and social emotional learning expert to provide ongoing training to families and staff.
  • Documents all child and family clinical contact activities and care coordination in EHR promptly for continuity of care.

Qualifications






Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Therapy, plus two (2) years post Master's experience in the same field.
Certifications/Licenses

  • Independent license to practice as required by New Jersey state laws governing the discipline.
  • Must have Licensed in the state of New Jersey: as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Experience and knowledge about early childhood growth and development, parent-child relational health, infant and early childhood mental health, and family systems.
  • Commitment to working with underserved populations in a community setting.
  • Ability to collaborate within multicultural settings.
  • Ability to take initiative and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work well in teams and independently.
  • Comfort with an open-door policy, potentially frequent interruptions, and warm handoffs.
  • Flexibility in communication: able to switch between being on the floor playing with young patients and communicating with medical professionals regarding mental health interventions in a professional, coherent, and efficient manner

  • Physical Demands: Time spent on the physical activities: up to 2/3 standing, walking, sitting; over 2/3 using hand to finger, handle, or feel; over 2/3 reaching with hands and arms; no climbing or balancing; no stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; over 2/3 talking or hearing, and no tasting or smelling. The position requires up to 25 lbs. lifting-no special vision requirements.
  • Work Environment: Moderate noise.
