As a DevOps engineer, you know the challenges that software engineers face and ultimately, know how to help teams with their software development lifecycle. We're looking for a DevOps engineer like you with a strong background in development to support our products while modernizing their SDLC and meeting their most challenging initiatives.

As a Staff DevOps engineer at Credit Acceptance, you'll work closely with our development community and other members of Platform Engineering, to build automation solutions to SDLC and Runtime challenges. You'll grow your skills within a Platform Engineering framework to establish and create GoldenPath /Reuseable SDLC solutions to Enable our development teams with automated build, tests, scans and runtime solutions.

Outcomes and Activities:

  • This position will work from home; occasional planned travel to an assigned Southfield, Michigan office location may be required. However, this position is permitted to work at a Southfield, Michigan office location if requested by the team member
  • Defines and adheres to standards, procedures and methodologies for effective operation, performance, security, and recovery of automation systems
  • Leads the technical definition for Developer Platforms that span across local development, Internal Developer portal, Orchestration APIs, and integrations to dependent tooling and capabilities
  • Partners with Platform Engineering leaders to define and drive a technical vision and roadmap
  • Accelerates Engineering projects and maintenance by automating manual processes
  • Supports engineering teams to define, estimate, and implement requirements for new system development
  • Participates in strategic efforts to reduce the impact of (and the time to recover from) application issues
  • Leads efforts to debug the problems which arise in production
  • Assists with unit-tests and validates acceptance criteria
  • Ensures automated systems are highly available and fault tolerant
  • Monitors both systems and processes daily for successful operation
  • Trains and supports team members on DevOps and Platform Engineering
  • Contributes to team's sprint commitments and actively participate in our Agile practices
  • Performs capacity planning and monitoring and predicts system growth trends
  • Develops and maintains documentation

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps or related field (such as platform engineering or software engineering)
  • Proficient writing code as a software engineer
  • Demonstrate strong expertise building developer 'Golden-Paths' spanning build, test, scan, release and exposing templates in an Internal Developer Portal
  • Demonstrate strong expertise managing build and continuous integration tools (Github, Github Actions, Argo, HELM and API driven Platform Orchestration)
  • Demonstrate strong expertise managing release or continuous delivery tools (such as Jenkins, Nexus Repository, Blue Ocean, Bitbucket Pipelines, Azure DevOps)
  • Strong experience with DB Ops & DB Change Management Tools like Liquibase, Postgres, Oracle.
  • Strong experience with application server technologies (such as Tomcat, WebLogic, JBoss, WebSphere, Spring boot, Docker)
  • High EQ with the ability to present to leaders and engineers with knowing how to adjust presentation for the proper audience

Preferred:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience with test automation frameworks
  • Experience with doing API development in support of building Developer Platforms
  • Experience configuring and maintaining database versioning tools (Liquibase, etc.)
  • Experience with application & infrastructure monitoring for performance and availability (DynaTrace, Grafana, Open Telemetry, etc.)
  • Experience managing source code solutions & branching strategies (GitHub Trunk Based Development, etc.)
  • Experience with an object-oriented language (Java, JavaScript, Python)
  • Experience working with cloud-based technologies (AWS, etc.)
  • Experience working with infrastructure as code and related tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Spacelift, etc.).
  • Strong experience with automation technologies and scripting languages like Python, Groovy, Node, Go
  • Experience with SDLC security including Code Quality, Static Code Analysis and being able to automate the scanning and output files in partnership with Security team requirements.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to simultaneously integrate into several teams to innovate, design, and build Platform solutions for the enterprise
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset by integrating code quality, security, and automated testing capabilities; remove technical impediment
  • Be a strong collaborator with product owners and understand business needs to deliver robust solutions that bring business value and support the goals of both DevOps and the Platform organization
  • Be an evangelist for Platform Engineering that introduces Platform standards, methodologies, and automation
  • Ability to automate unit and integration test cases and solve problems
  • Experience and understanding of the business value created and driven by the work done in Platform Engineering
  • Strong understanding of relevant and emerging technologies
  • Provide feedback and mentor fellow team members
  • Demonstrate initiative and embed learning and innovation in your day-to-day

Target Compensation: A competitive base salary range from $140,625 - $206,250. This position is eligible for an annual variable bonus of cash and equity, between 10-20%. Final compensation within the range is influenced by many factors including role-specific skills, depth and experience level, industry background, relevant education and certifications.

Candidates who reside in the following major metropolitan areas may be eligible for a premium on top of the posted range based on their specific zone: San Francisco, Seattle, Boston, New York City, Los Angeles and San Diego.
