What to Expect

The Residential & Robot Charging team owns the full stack of Tesla's home, multi-family, and humanoid-robot charging products (Universal Mobile Connector, Wall Connector, and the Optimus Charger). We build the software that makes charging safe, fast, low-cost and widely accessible.

Our chargers are secure, grid-interactive IoT nodes that must run flawless safety-critical code 24/7, support seamless OTA updates, handle dynamic load management across many units, allow for vehicles to power the home, enable energy billing/reimbursement, integrate with Tesla App, and (soon) charge millions of Optimus robots.

What You'll Do
  • Own major firmware subsystems end-to-end (requirements architecture implementation validation fleet monitoring)
  • Design and implement safety-critical real-time software in C/C++ on RTOS and embedded Linux platforms
  • Lead protocol implementation and certification efforts for OCPP 2.0.1, ISO 15118-2/-20 (PnC), DIN 70121, and emerging robot-charging standards
  • Build wireless (Wi-Fi, BLE, Thread) and wired (Ethernet, PLC, CAN-FD) communication stacks and mesh topologies
  • Collaborate with mobile, backend, and hardware teams to deliver complete features (e.g., PowerShare, scheduled charging, site-level load balancing)
  • Drive test automation (unit, SIL, HIL, fault injection) and CI/CD pipelines for firmware
  • Provide technical mentorship and set the quality bar for the team

What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years shipping high-reliability embedded firmware for connected devices
  • Strong C/C++ skills in resource-constrained and real-time environments (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, bare-metal)
  • Proven experience with TCP/IP, TLS, HTTP, WebSockets in embedded systems
  • Hands-on experience with EV charging standards (OCPP, ISO 15118, DIN 70121) or robotics preferred
  • Familiarity with smart-home protocols (Matter/CHIP, Thread, HomeKit) preferred
  • Comfortable reading schematics, soldering, and lab debugging (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, CAN tools)
  • Track record of leading cross-functional projects in a fast-moving environment
  • Passion for clean, well-tested code
