SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

The position supports SouthState Bank's enterprise wide BSA/AML/Fraud/Sanctions Program by performing detailed analytical work to support the Bank's AML, Fraud and Sanctions systems. This position will review existing rules and analytics, perform tuning exercises, and maintain documentation on an ongoing basis for the systems and model tools used by the FIU. This position is also responsible for providing support to the FIU Department, participating in model validations, and assisting in the remediation of model deficiencies identified by management.

It is the policy of SouthState Bank to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and the requirements of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and other related anti-money laundering/ anti-terrorist financing initiatives. The Bank has established a Bank Secrecy Act/ Anti-Money Laundering/Office of Foreign Assets Control (BSA/AML/OFAC) Compliance Program, covering all requirements of the BSA, USA PATRIOT Act and OFAC rules and regulations.Upon completion of required training, the Board of Directors of SouthState Bank shall hold each employee accountable for adhering to the established operating procedures and internal controls as set forth in the Bank's BSA/AML/OFAC Program. Continued instances of non-compliance or willful violation of law may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work with management to review and test new analytics, modules, or scenarios and provide recommendations for use.

  • Perform ongoing model tuning and prepare recommendations for adjustments to rules and analytics.

  • Complete ongoing reviews of existing system configurations and maintain documentation to support model usage.

  • Maintain AML, Fraud, Sanctions, and Customer Risk tuning documentation for analytical models and agent data sources.

  • Complete under threshold testing review for AML module and provide recommendations for enhancements or adjustments to AML analytics.

  • Perform model testing, including sample reviews and validation, to ensure transaction monitoring and sanctions screening systems are effective.

  • Maintain exemptions and custom behaviors and profiles within the Verafin system.

  • Notify appropriate personnel through submission of the Unusual Activity Referral Form of any identified potential unusual or suspicious activity immediately.

  • Remain current on BSA/AML, Fraud, and Sanctions compliance requirements to support accurate tuning and system analysis.

  • Assist with projects, ad hoc analysis, or other department needs as assigned.

  • Adhere to all provisions of South State Bank policies and procedures, including the confidentiality policy, code of ethics and BSA/AML/OFAC policies and procedures.

COMPETENCIES

  • Experience with traditional and machine learning/artificial intelligence financial crimes systems

  • Experience in reviewing and analyzing large amount of data in Microsoft Excel for statistical analysis

  • Experience with model/system tuning and documentation processes

  • Experience working in core banking systems (Fiserv preferred)

  • Experience working in AML and Sanctions software platforms (Verafin and BAM preferred)

  • Knowledge and understanding of BSA/AML, Fraud, and Sanctions regulations, technology, and data analysis best practices

  • Ability to perform analysis of BSA related data to draw conclusions on model/system performance and tuning analysis

  • Self-motivated, dependable, adaptable, and detail-oriented individual with analytical, writing, and organizational skills

  • Strong verbal, written and visual communication skills; ability to translate technical observations to non-technical audience

  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Office, Excel, PowerPoint and able/willing to adapt to new software if/as needed

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements

  • Education: BA/BS in business, data science, statistics, or related quantitative discipline preferred.

  • Experience:

    • At least 3 years' experience in a highly regulated environment with AML, Fraud, and OFAC knowledge and relevant typologies.

    • In-depth knowledge of AML/Fraud transaction and monitoring systems and Sanctions screening systems (Abrigo BAM, LexisNexis Bridger, and Verafin experience preferred).

    • Verafin experience including system tuning, administration/configuration management, data/file import mapping and validation preferred.

    • Use of Microsoft Excel to review large datasets and identify gaps, issues, or mapping deficiencies.

    • Knowledge of model risk management documentation requirements and best practices.

    • Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) particularly with advanced Excel features such as PivotTables and formulas required.

  • Certifications/Specific Knowledge: Certification in BSA/AML, Fraud, or Sanctions preferred

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

  • New Employee Orientation

  • Required annual compliance training

  • System-specific training as necessary to perform duties

  • FIU / Financial Crimes training as assigned by the Chief BSA Officer

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to remain seated or work standing in a confined area on a computer for a minimum of four (4) hours each workday.

  • Must be able to constantly use hands and fingers to enter data through or on a computer or answer a phone throughout most of an eight (8) hour shift.

  • Must be able to hear and communicate with coworkers and customers throughout the day.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Remote work is not a substitute for child/dependent care. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered.

Travel may be required to come to meetings as needed.

In accordance with Colorado law: Colorado pay for this position is anticipated to be between $66,440.00 - $106,131.00 , actual offers to be determined based on applicant's skills, experience and education.
