The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director will lead the university's capital planning, design, and construction efforts across multiple campuses. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the physical evolution of a globally respected institution. In this role, you'll oversee the entire project lifecycle - from master planning and design to construction and occupancy - ensuring each initiative is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality. You'll also lead a small, high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability.

The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator who can engage a wide range of stakeholders, from construction teams and contractors to faculty, senior executives, board members, and public officials.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Execution

  • Develop and implement short- and long-term capital plans aligned with the university's strategic priorities.
  • Manage multiple, concurrent projects - from academic buildings to research labs and student facilities - through all phases.
  • Partner with campus leaders to translate institutional needs into transformative infrastructure.

Project Management

  • Oversee every project phase: planning, feasibility, design, permitting, construction, and final delivery.
  • Create and track project timelines, milestones, and critical path schedules.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the university's representative on major construction efforts, confidently liaising with architects, contractors, officials, faculty, and trustees.
  • Build consensus across stakeholder groups and communicate project status, risks, and achievements to executive leadership and the Board of Trustees.

Financial Oversight & Contracting

  • Prepare and manage comprehensive budgets, ensuring projects stay on track financially.
  • Oversee procurement processes and vendor performance, emphasizing value and efficiency.

Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure full compliance with all codes, safety regulations, permits, and university policies.
  • Uphold standards of safety, sustainability, and construction excellence.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 8-10 years of experience in construction management, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in higher education or similar institutional environments is highly desirable.
  • Registered professional engineer or licensed architect. Airport operations experience a plus. (Preferred)
  • Active Driver's license (required)

Skills:

  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale construction projects.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budget management and cost control.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction codes, regulations, and best practices.Proficiency in project management software and tools.
