Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institutes (OSUCCC-James) mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patients involvement in their own plan of care, and reducing the length of hospitalization, the staff nurse plays a critical role in staff engagement, the patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care. Position SummaryThe Staff Nurse is responsible for managing and providing care to the patient and their family, and for directing and supervising nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team. The Staff Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating the nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. Minimum Education Required2-Year College Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Additional Education DesiredBachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with a Major in nursing Required QualificationsDegree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program required. Current Ohio license or interim permit. *Experience in relevant care setting preferred. The Oncology Pod is a specialized unit within the Emergency Department and one of the few dedicated oncology emergency care settings in the country. It is designed to meet the urgent and complex needs of cancer patients while preserving the fast-paced, high-acuity environment of emergency medicine. This model combines rapid intervention with the expertise and patient-centered care expected from The James. Patients present with a wide spectrum of issues, including complications from cancer or its treatment as well as unrelated acute illnesses. This variety demands sharp clinical judgment and offers nurses continual opportunities to build advanced skills in triage, symptom management, and critical care. As a smaller, focused unit within the broader ED, the Oncology Pod fosters strong team cohesion and a supportive work environment.
